Janusz Andrzej Dzięcioł (born December 11, 1953 – died December 6, 2019) was a Polish politician. He was also famous for winning the first season of the TV show Big Brother in Poland.
From 2007 to 2015, he was a member of the Polish Parliament, which is called the Sejm. Before that, from 2002 to 2007, he was a Grudziądz City Councillor. He also led the municipal police force in Świecie.

Becoming a TV Star
Between March and June 2001, Janusz Dzięcioł took part in the first season of the Polish Big Brother TV show. This show features people living together in a house, with cameras watching them.
He was the oldest person living in the Big Brother house. He ended up winning that season of the show. After becoming famous from Big Brother, he acted in a comedy movie called Gulczas, a jak myślisz? (which means Gulczas, what do you think?).

Serving His City: City Councillor
In 2002, Janusz Dzięcioł was elected to the Grudziądz City Council. A City Councillor helps make decisions about how a city is run. They work to improve things for the people living there.
He was re-elected to the Grudziądz City Council in 2006. He received many votes from people in his district. In 2007, he left his role as a City Councillor when he was elected to the national parliament.
A Member of Parliament: Sejm
In the 2007 Polish parliamentary election, Janusz Dzięcioł became a member of the Polish Parliament. The Sejm is where laws are made for the whole country. He represented the Toruń-Włocławek area.
He was re-elected to the Sejm in the 2011 election. He served two terms in the parliament, from 2007 to 2015. He did not run for re-election in 2015.
After His Time in Parliament
Janusz Dzięcioł passed away on December 6, 2019. He was involved in an accident where his car collided with a train at a level crossing in Biały Bór.
