Japan Oil, Gas and Metals National Corporation (石油天然ガス・金属鉱物資源機構), also known as JOGMEC, is an Independent Administrative Institution which was created by the Japanese government in 2004.
History
In 2004, JOGMEC was established by the Law Concerning the Japan Oil, Gas and Metals National Corporation.
JOGMEC was created when the Japan National Oil Corporation (JNOC) merged with the former Metal Mining Agency of Japan (MMAJ).
Rare metal stockpiles are managed by JOGMEC.
In March 2013 JOGMEC successfully extracted methane hydrate from seabed for the first time in the world.
