The Story of Jaris
Jaris became an official district quite recently, on May 18, 2012. This happened through a special government decision.

Jaris covers an area of about 5.53 square kilometers. To give you an idea, that's roughly the size of 553 football fields! The district is located at an elevation of 830 meters above sea level. This means it's quite high up, which can affect its climate and scenery.

When the 2011 census (a count of all the people) was done, Jaris had not yet become its own district. However, there are old records from the 1883 census that show 166 people living in the village of Jaris. By 1892, the area, including Guayabo and Jaris, had 868 inhabitants. This village later grew to become the main center of the district when it was officially created in 2012.
