A Creative Life: Music and Books
Jaroslav Velinský was born in Prague, which is in Czechoslovakia (now the Czech Republic), in 1932. He loved music and played both the banjo and the swing guitar. He wrote over 50 country and folk songs, including popular ones like "Jenofefa" and "Mary Celeste." He even helped start a famous Czech folk festival called Porta.
His Amazing Books

Publishing His Own Way
Jaroslav Velinský started his own publishing company called the Club of Friends of Captain Kid. It was a unique idea! This "club" was actually made up of his readers and music fans. He used their ideas and feedback to decide what new books or songs to create. This meant he could publish new stories and music that his audience really wanted. It was like making books and songs "on demand"!

Jaroslav Velinský passed away in February 2012 in Ústí nad Labem. He was 79 years old.
