Jarrod Harbrow, born on July 18, 1988, is a former professional Australian rules football player. He was a talented defender who played for the Gold Coast Football Club in the Australian Football League (AFL). He also played for the Western Bulldogs.

Jarrod Harbrow's Early Life and Football Start

Jarrod was born in Cairns, Queensland. His mother was an Indigenous Australian from the Yirrganydji and Kuku Yalanji tribes. His father was from Mooroopna, Victoria. Jarrod grew up in Cairns and started playing junior football there. He played for teams like the Manunda Hawks and South Cairns. He also went to Woree State School.

When Jarrod was 13, his brother became very sick. He had leukemia, a type of cancer. Jarrod and his family moved to Townsville for a year. Jarrod bravely donated bone marrow to help his brother get better. During this time, he continued to play junior football. He played for the Hermit Park Tigers and attended Townsville Grammar School.

In 2005, at 16, Jarrod moved to Victoria. He played for the Mooroopna Football Club. Later, he joined the TAC Cup team, the Murray Bushrangers. This was to help him get noticed for the AFL Draft. He played for Queensland in the 2004 and 2006 AFL Under 16 and Under 18 Championships. Both times, his teams won their division titles. Even though he wasn't picked in the 2006 AFL Draft, AFL talent scouts had already noticed his skills.

Jarrod's AFL Career

Joining the Western Bulldogs

Jarrod Harbrow was chosen by the Western Bulldogs in the 2007 rookie draft. A "rookie" is a new player who gets a chance to join a team. After playing for a short time with Werribee, the Bulldogs' VFL team, Jarrod made his AFL debut. This was in Round 4 of the 2007 season against the Richmond Tigers.

He quickly became a regular player for the Bulldogs. People were impressed by his speed, skill, and how well he defended. He was also good at running away from opponents. In 2009, he became a key defender for the team. He was known for stopping some of the best small forwards in the league.

Moving to Gold Coast Suns

At the end of the 2010 season, Jarrod decided to join the Gold Coast Suns. The Suns were a new team in the AFL. He wanted to return to Queensland, where he grew up. This was a big decision, even though the Bulldogs wanted him to stay. Jarrod was one of the first players from another AFL club to join the Suns.

He played his 100th AFL game in 2012 against the Sydney Swans. In 2016, he became the first Gold Coast player to reach 100 games for their club. This was a special moment for him and the team.

In 2018, Jarrod made history again. He became the first Gold Coast player to play 150 games for the club. Because of this, the club made him a life member. He also won the Gold Coast Club Champion award in 2018. This award is given to the team's best and fairest player.

Jarrod Harbrow announced his retirement on August 17, 2021. He played his last game for the Suns in their season finale against the Sydney Swans. He had a long and successful career, playing 262 games in total.
