Getting Drafted into MLB
In 1986, the Minnesota Twins chose Jarvis in the first round of the baseball draft. This meant they picked him to join their team. He was the ninth player picked overall that year.
Playing in the Major Leagues
Jarvis played in the major leagues from 1991 to 1995. He was known for being incredibly fast when he ran. However, hitting the ball was not his strongest skill. He had 227 chances to bat in the major leagues. His career batting average was .203. He hit one Home run and helped his team score ten runs. Even so, he was very good at stealing bases, with thirteen stolen bases in his career.
Winning the World Series
Jarvis Brown is a World Series champion. He earned a World Series ring with the 1991 Minnesota Twins. During that championship season, he was often used as a pinch runner. A pinch runner is a player who comes into the game just to run the bases for another player.
In the 1991 American League Championship Series, Jarvis played in one game. He did not get to bat, but he scored one run for his team. During the 1991 World Series, he played in three games. In Game 7, the final game of the series, he came in as a pinch runner in the ninth inning. He made it all the way to third base. He had a chance to score the winning run, which would have been amazing for a rookie! However, he was left on base. The Twins still won the game and the World Series, giving Jarvis his championship ring.
Life After Playing Baseball
After his time as a Major League Baseball player, Jarvis Brown became a baseball coach. He was the head coach for the University of Wisconsin Parkside Rangers baseball team for three years. Later, around 2009, he worked as an assistant baseball coach at Carthage College.
