Jason Bernard (born Ronald Carl Johnson, May 17, 1938 – October 16, 1996) was an American actor. He was known for his many roles in television shows and movies. He often played characters like police officers, judges, or important officials.

Life and Career

Jason Bernard was born in Chicago, Illinois. He started his acting career in the late 1960s. He quickly became a familiar face on television and in films.

Early TV Roles

One of Bernard's first big roles was in the TV show The White Shadow. He played Jim Willis in the first episode. He also appeared in popular shows like Starsky & Hutch and The Jeffersons.

Becoming a TV Star

Bernard had many well-known roles on television. He played Inspector Marquette in the crime drama Cagney & Lacey from 1982 to 1983. He was also Preston Wade in the soap opera Days of Our Lives. Fans might remember him as Judge Willard in the first season of Night Court.

A very important role for Bernard was Caleb Taylor in the 1983 NBC miniseries V. This was a science fiction story about aliens. He played the same character again in the 1984 sequel, V: The Final Battle. Later, in the 1990s comedy series Herman's Head, he played Herman's boss, Mr. Paul Bracken.

Movies and Video Games

Jason Bernard also acted in many movies. His first role in a major film was in Thomasine & Bushrod in 1974. He later appeared in popular films like Car Wash, WarGames, and Blue Thunder.

He played a blind musician named Tyrone Wattell in the movie All of Me. Bernard's final movie role was as Judge Marshall Stevens in the 1997 film Liar Liar, which came out after he passed away.

Besides TV and movies, Bernard also acted in video games! He played Captain William Eisen in the games Wing Commander III: Heart of the Tiger and Wing Commander IV: The Price of Freedom.

Death

Jason Bernard passed away on October 16, 1996. He had a heart attack while driving his car in Burbank, California. He was taken to the hospital but sadly died there. He was 58 years old.

He was survived by his wife, Debra, and his son, Jason Jr. Two films, Suddenly and Liar Liar, were dedicated to his memory.
