Jason Glanville's Career
Jason Glanville has held many important jobs in groups that focus on helping Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. He has also worked for the Australian and Queensland governments.
Working for Reconciliation Australia
Before 2009, Jason Glanville was the Director of Policy and Strategy for Reconciliation Australia. This organization works to build better relationships between Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples and other Australians. He learned a lot from Mick Dodson, another important Indigenous leader.
In 2010, Glanville was named one of Sydney's 100 Most Influential People. In 2011, Boss Magazine also recognized him as one of the "True Leaders of 2011."
Leading the National Centre of Indigenous Excellence
As of 2012, Glanville became the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the National Centre of Indigenous Excellence (NCIE). The NCIE is a special organization that aims to help Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples grow their skills and find new opportunities across Australia.
Glanville had a big dream for the NCIE. He wanted it to help change the area of Redfern in Sydney. Redfern was known for high unemployment, but he wanted it to become a place famous for learning and culture. As of October 2021[update] he is no longer in that role.
Speaking at the National Press Club
On 13 February 2013, Jason Glanville gave an important speech at the National Press Club. This club is a place where important people talk about big issues. He spoke alongside Tanya Hosch, and their speech was titled "Recognition: Why It's Right." This talk was about recognizing Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples in Australia's constitution. On the same day, a photo of Glanville, Hosch, and Indigenous leader Patrick Dodson was on the front page of The Australian newspaper.
Other Important Roles
As of 2012[update] Jason Glanville also held other important positions. He was a co-director of the Ngiya Institute for Indigenous Policy, Law and Practice. He was also a Trustee of the Australian Museum and a board member of the Australian Indigenous Leadership Centre. These roles show his dedication to helping Indigenous communities and shaping important policies.
