The Jason Skinner House is a special old building in Harwinton, Connecticut. It was built around 1845. This house is a great example of a style called Greek Revival. What's really cool is that it was moved from its original spot in 1985! It is now listed on the National Register of Historic Places.

The Jason Skinner House is located at 21 Wintergreen Circle in Harwinton. It is a 2+1⁄2-story house. This means it has two full floors and a half-story, often in the attic. The house is made of wood. It has a roof that slopes down on two sides. Inside, you can find brick chimneys. The outside is covered with overlapping wooden boards called clapboards.
What Makes it Special?
Look for the wide corner posts on the house. These are called pilasters. They go all the way up to a decorative band called an entablature. The front of the house has five sections, or "bays." The main door is in the middle. It has narrow windows on the sides, called sidelights. There is also a window above the door, called a transom. Inside, many of the original wooden parts are still there. It looks much like it did long ago!
A House with a History
Jason Skinner, a successful local farmer, built this house. He built it sometime in the mid-1840s. The house used to be in a quiet, country area. It was located near Valley View Pond. But in 1985, something amazing happened! The house was carefully taken apart, piece by piece. Then, it was moved to its new spot. This new spot is near the town offices.
Some parts of the house that were old or damaged were replaced. New parts were made to look just like the old ones. Any newer parts from the 1900s were updated. Today, the Jason Skinner House is used as an office. It is the office for the local public housing authority.
