Jason Upton's Early Life
Jason Upton was born on December 15, 1973, in Minneapolis, Minnesota. He was adopted by a Christian family in March 1974. Jason has Native American roots because his biological father was a Cherokee.
Jason Upton's Music Journey
Jason Upton started his music career in 2000. He released his first album, Key of David, that year. It was recorded live in Virginia Beach. More than half of the songs on this album were spontaneous. This means they were made up on the spot!
Later in 2000, Jason performed at a big event called "The Call D.C." In 2001, he released his second album, Faith. The main song, also called "Faith," was an unplanned "Spirit Song."
In 2002, Jason released two more albums: Jacob's Dream and Dying Star. Dying Star was his first album recorded in a studio. That same year, he sang "You Are the One" for a special album. This album honored another Christian musician named Keith Green.
In 2003, Jason released Remember, another live album. The last song on Remember, called Fly, became very popular. Many listeners felt touched by it. People even said an angel was recorded singing with Jason on that song! Also in 2003, Jason led worship at the Onething Conference. He then released Trusting the Angels in December 2004.
His album Great River Road came out in 2005. It included some songs from his earlier albums and four new ones. This album also had a special CD-ROM feature. On it, Jason explained what inspired his songs.
In late 2005, Jason released his album Open Up the Earth. This was his eighth album overall.
His tenth album, Beautiful People, was released in 2007. It featured piano songs that mixed calm pop with powerful anthems. One song, "Never Alone Martin," was inspired by Martin Luther King Jr.. Martin Luther King Jr. had a religious experience where he felt Jesus would never leave him alone. This happened when he was getting threats during the Montgomery bus boycott.
