Jaume Balagueró Bernat (born 2 November 1968) is a Spanish film director and screenwriter. He is famous for making exciting horror movies. His most well-known work is the popular REC film series.

Early Life and Studies
Jaume Balagueró was born in Lleida, a city in Spain. He grew up in Barcelona. He went to the University of Barcelona to study communications and photography. He finished his studies in 1991. In 1992, Jaume started working as a film journalist. He also hosted a radio show called “La espuma de los días.”
His Film Career
Starting with Short Films
In 1994, Jaume Balagueró started making films using professional 35mm cameras. His first short film was called Alicia (1994). This film won an award for Best Short Film at the Sitges Film Festival. He then made another short film, Days without Light (1995). This film was also very successful at different film festivals.
First Feature Films
Jaume Balagueró directed his first full-length movie, The Nameless (1999). This film was based on a book by Ramsey Campbell. It was shown at film festivals all over the world. It even won an award for Best Film at the Fant-Asia Film Festival.
Three years later, in 2002, he released another horror film called Darkness. This was his first movie made in English. A big movie studio called Miramax released a shorter version of it in the United States.
In 2005, Balagueró directed Fragile. This was a ghost story starring famous actors like Calista Flockhart. Also in 2002, he helped direct a documentary about rock music called OT: la película.
TV Projects and the REC Series
In 2006, Jaume Balagueró worked on a TV project called Películas para no dormir (which means 6 Films to Keep You Awake). He directed one of the films in the series, called To Let. This project was a new version of an old scary TV show. Other famous Spanish horror directors also made films for this series.
In early 2007, Balagueró started working on REC (2007). This movie became his most famous work. He also directed a thriller film called Sleep Tight. He later directed REC 4: Apocalypse and helped write its script. He also wrote the script for REC 3: Genesis.
