Calista Kay Flockhart (born November 11, 1964) is a famous American actress. She is best known for playing the main character, Ally McBeal, in the TV show Ally McBeal. This show aired from 1997 to 2002. For her role, she won a Golden Globe Award in 1998.
Calista also starred as Kitty Walker in the drama series Brothers & Sisters from 2006 to 2011. Later, she played Cat Grant in the superhero show Supergirl from 2015 to 2021. In movies, she is known for her parts in The Birdcage (1996) and A Midsummer Night's Dream (1999).

Early Life and Education
Calista Flockhart was born in Freeport, Illinois. Her mother, Kay Calista, was an English teacher. Her father, Ronald Flockhart, worked as an executive for Kraft Foods. Calista has an older brother named Gary. Her mother gave her the name Calista Kay by reversing her own first and middle names.
Calista went to the Mason Gross School of the Arts at Rutgers University–New Brunswick. She was a very talented acting student. A theater director, William Esper, allowed her to perform on the main stage. This was usually only for older students. Calista earned her degree in theater in 1988. Rutgers University honored her in 2003 for her achievements.
Acting Career
Starting Out
Calista Flockhart first appeared on TV in 1989 in a small role on Guiding Light. She also acted in a TV special about a teenager with an eating disorder. Her first professional stage role was in New York in a play called Beside Herself.
In 1994, Calista had her first important movie role in Quiz Show. She also made her Broadway debut that year in The Glass Menagerie. She won an award for her performance in that play. In 1996, she appeared in the movie The Birdcage with famous actors like Gene Hackman.
Ally McBeal
In 1997, Calista was asked to try out for the main role in the TV show Ally McBeal. She got the part and became very well-known. The show was about a young lawyer. Calista won a Golden Globe Award for this role in 1998. She was also on the cover of Time magazine. She starred in Ally McBeal until it ended in 2002.
Brothers & Sisters
From 2006 to 2011, Calista Flockhart starred in the TV series Brothers & Sisters. She played Kitty Walker. The show was about a family and their lives. She acted alongside Sally Field and Matthew Rhys. The show ran for five years.
Other Roles
Calista also played Helena in the 1999 movie A Midsummer Night's Dream, based on Shakespeare's play. In 2015, she joined the TV series Supergirl. She played Cat Grant, who was a powerful media boss and Supergirl's employer. She was a main character in the first season and later appeared as a special guest.
In 2022, Calista performed in a play called Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf? in Los Angeles. More recently, in 2024, she appeared in the TV series Feud: Capote vs. The Swans. She played Lee Radziwill, a real-life socialite.
Personal Life
In January 2001, Calista Flockhart adopted a baby boy.

Calista Flockhart is married to the famous actor Harrison Ford. They first met at the Golden Globe Awards in 2002. They got engaged in 2009 and were married on June 15, 2010, in New Mexico.
