A Look Back in Time
How Jaunpur Got Its Name
The town of Jaunpur was built in the 14th century. A ruler named Firoz Shah Tughlaq created it. He built it to remember his cousin, Sultan Muhammad. Sultan Muhammad's real name was Jauna Khan. That's why the city was named Jaunpur.
The Sharky Empire
Around the year 1394 AD, a powerful leader named Malik Sarvar started the Sharky empire here. During the time of the Sharky rulers, many beautiful mosques were built in Jaunpur. These buildings show the rich history of the area.
