Jayendrabhā of Sambhupura facts for kids

Kids Encyclopedia Facts

Jayendrabhā was an important queen who ruled a kingdom called Sambhupura Chenla in what is now Cambodia. She lived a long time ago, between the 8th and 9th centuries. She was known as a queen regnant, which means she ruled the kingdom herself, not just as a king's wife.

Early Life and Family

Jayendrabhā was the daughter of another powerful queen named Nṛpatendradevī. Her mother also ruled Sambhupura. It seems that Jayendrabhā took over the throne directly from her mother. This was a special time when women could hold great power in the kingdom.

Her Reign and Marriage

Queen Jayendrabhā ruled Sambhupura Chenla during a significant period in Cambodian history. She later married a very famous king named Jayavarman II. King Jayavarman II is well-known for uniting many smaller kingdoms and starting the great Khmer Empire. His reign lasted from about 780 to 824 AD. Jayendrabhā's marriage to such a powerful king likely helped strengthen her own kingdom and its connections.

Succession to the Throne

After Jayendrabhā, her own daughter became the next ruler of Sambhupura Chenla. Her daughter's name was Jyeṣṭhāryā. Jyeṣṭhāryā took over the throne by the year 803 AD. This shows a clear line of powerful queens ruling Sambhupura Chenla for several generations.
