Early Life and College Soccer
Playing for the Florida Gators
Jazmyne Avant received a special scholarship to attend the University of Florida. There, she played for the Florida Gators women's soccer team. Her coach was Becky Burleigh. Jazmyne played for the Gators from 2008 to 2011.
She was a very strong defender for the team. She played in a total of 97 matches. She also helped her team score by making 12 assists. An assist is when a player helps set up a goal for a teammate.
Playing for Team USA
Jazmyne also played for the United States national youth teams. In 2006, she was part of the United States Under-16 (U16) team. Later, in 2009, she joined the United States Under-20 (U20) player group.
Professional Soccer Career
Starting Her Club Journey
In early 2012, Jazmyne Avant traveled to Japan with the Sky Blue FC team. After this, she signed with the New York Fury. This team played in the WPSL Elite during the 2012 season. The WPSL Elite was a top women's soccer league at that time.
Playing in the NWSL
On February 20, 2013, Jazmyne joined the Portland Thorns. This team is part of the NWSL, which is a major professional soccer league in the United States. She was signed as a "discovery player," which means the team found her talent and signed her.
