Jean Patton was a very fast American runner born in 1932. She was a top track and field athlete, specializing in short races called sprints. Jean competed in the 100-meter and 200-meter dashes.
She was a three-time national champion in the United States. This means she won the top prize at the USA Outdoor Track and Field Championships. She won the 100-meter race in 1949 and 1950. In 1951, she won the 200-meter race.
Jean Patton also competed for the United States in a big international event. This was the 1951 Pan American Games. She won two gold medals there. One gold was for the 200-meter race. The other was for the 4 × 100 metres relay race. She ran with Nell Jackson, Dolores Dwyer, and Janet Moreau in the relay. Jean also won a silver medal in the 100-meter race.
Jean Patton went to Tennessee State College. She was a star athlete for her college team.
