Jeanne-Elisabeth Chaudet (born Gabiou) was a talented French painter. She was born in Paris, France, and lived until April 18, 1832. She was married to the famous sculptor Antoine Denis Chaudet, who was also her art teacher.
About Jeanne-Elisabeth Chaudet
Jeanne-Elisabeth Chaudet was a well-known artist in her time. Her father, Louis Gabiou, worked as a wig maker. After her first husband, Antoine Denis Chaudet, passed away in 1810, she married again in 1812. Her second husband was Pierre-Arsène Denis Husson, who worked for the government.
Her Artistic Family
Jeanne-Elisabeth was part of a family of artists. Her sister-in-law, Marie-Élisabeth Gabiou, was also a painter. Interestingly, Jeanne-Elisabeth was also a first cousin to Marie-Élisabeth and her sisters, Marie-Denise Villers and Marie-Victoire Lemoine. This means art was a big part of their family life!
Her Art and Exhibitions
Jeanne-Elisabeth Chaudet was known for her beautiful paintings. One of her artworks, Portrait of Madame Villot, née Barbier, was even included in a famous book from 1905 called Women Painters of the World. She regularly showed her paintings at the Salon in Paris, which was a very important art exhibition. She continued to exhibit her work there until 1817. Jeanne-Elisabeth Chaudet passed away in 1832.
