Jeffrey Christopher Horn Jr. (born on 4 February 1988) is an Australian former professional boxer. He competed from 2013 to 2020. Jeff held the WBO welterweight boxing title from 2017 to 2018. Before becoming a pro, he was an amateur boxer. He even represented Australia at the 2012 Olympics. There, he reached the quarterfinals in the light-welterweight category.

Jeff Horn's Amateur Boxing Start

Jeff Horn started boxing a bit later than some. He won his first Australian title in 2009. He won it again in 2011. He also earned a silver medal at a tournament in Helsinki. Jeff competed at the 2011 World Boxing Championships. In 2012, he won his third Australian title. He also won his first Oceania title. These wins helped him get a spot at the London Olympics.

Jeff Horn's Professional Boxing Career

Early Professional Fights

Jeff Horn started his professional boxing career in Melbourne on 1 March 2013. He won his first fight by technical knockout in the second round. In just his seventh pro fight, he beat Naoufel Ben Rabah. Rabah was a top contender for a world title.

On 27 April 2016, Horn fought Randall Bailey. Bailey was a former world champion. Horn knocked Bailey down in the second round. Then, Horn was knocked down in the third. Horn won the fight when Bailey stopped before the eighth round.

On 21 October 2016, Horn defeated Rico Mueller by technical knockout. After this win, the WBO ranked him as the second-best welterweight boxer. On 10 December 2016, Horn beat Ali Funeka. This win set up a possible big fight with Manny Pacquiao.

Horn vs. Pacquiao: A Big Fight

Jeff Horn was set to fight Manny Pacquiao in Brisbane on 2 July 2017. Pacquiao was a famous world champion. Many people were surprised by this fight. Pacquiao himself said he didn't know who Jeff Horn was.

The fight took place at Suncorp Stadium. Horn defeated Pacquiao by a unanimous decision after 12 rounds. This meant all judges agreed Horn won. Many boxing experts and fans thought Pacquiao had done enough to win.

Some people criticized the judges' decision. They compared it to other controversial fights. The WBO later reviewed the fight. They had five new judges score it. These judges also scored the fight in favor of Horn. They said Horn won seven rounds and Pacquiao won five. The WBO said they could not change the original result.

First Title Defence

After winning the title, Horn was supposed to have a rematch with Pacquiao. But the rematch did not happen. Instead, Horn defended his WBO title against Gary Corcoran. This fight took place on 13 December 2017. Corcoran's team stopped the fight in the eleventh round. This meant Horn won by technical knockout and kept his title.

First Loss of the Title

On 9 June 2018, Jeff Horn fought Terence Crawford. Crawford defeated Horn by technical knockout in the ninth round. Crawford became the new WBO welterweight champion. This was Horn's first loss as a professional boxer.

Moving to Middleweight

Horn vs. Mundine

After losing his welterweight title, Horn moved up to the middleweight division. He fought Anthony Mundine on 30 November 2018. Horn won this fight very quickly, in just 96 seconds.

Horn vs. Zerafa Fights

Next, Horn faced Michael Zerafa on 31 August 2019. Horn lost this fight by technical knockout in the ninth round. It was his second professional loss.

However, Horn had a rematch with Zerafa on 18 December 2019. Horn won the rematch by a majority decision. This brought his boxing record to 20 wins, 2 losses, and 1 draw.

Horn vs. Tszyu

On 26 August 2020, Horn fought Tim Tszyu. Tszyu was a rising star in Australian boxing. Tszyu knocked Horn down twice during the fight. Horn's team decided to stop the fight after the eighth round. Tszyu won the match.

Retirement from Boxing

On 2 July 2023, Jeff Horn announced he was retiring from boxing. He decided to focus on being an ambassador for an anti-bullying foundation. He said he had turned down offers of $1 million to return to the ring.

Jeff Horn's Personal Life

Jeff Horn lives in Brisbane, Australia. His father, Jeff Horn Sr., is a builder. His mother, Liza Dykstra, works for the Saint Vincent de Paul Society. Jeff's grandfather, Ray Horn, was also a boxer. He fought in exhibition matches in the 1930s.

Jeff Horn has a university degree in education. He used to work as a physical education teacher in Brisbane. His daughter was born in 2017.

When he was younger, Jeff was a victim of bullying. He has said that this is why he started boxing. He wanted to learn how to defend himself. Now, he is an ambassador for an Australian anti-bullying foundation. He visits schools to talk about how to manage conflicts.
