Jeffrey Christopher Horn Jr. (born on 4 February 1988) is an Australian former professional boxer. He competed in boxing from 2013 to 2020. Jeff Horn held the WBO welterweight title from 2017 to 2018. Before becoming a professional, he was an amateur boxer. He even represented Australia at the 2012 Olympics in London. There, he made it to the quarterfinals in his weight class.

Jeff Horn's Amateur Boxing Journey

Jeff Horn started boxing a bit later than some. But he quickly became very good! He won his first Australian boxing title in 2009. He won it again in 2011. After that, he earned a silver medal at a tournament in Finland. He also competed in the 2011 World Boxing Championships.

Horn at the 2012 London Olympics

In 2012, Jeff Horn won his third Australian title. He also won his first Oceania title. These wins helped him get a spot at the London Olympics. He competed in the light-welterweight category (64 kg).

In just his seventh professional fight, he beat Naoufel Ben Rabah. This boxer had challenged for a world title twice before. On 27 April 2016, Horn fought Randall Bailey, a former world champion. Horn won this fight by technical knockout. After this win, the WBO ranked him as the second-best welterweight boxer in the world. On 10 December 2016, Horn fought Ali Funeka and won again. This win set up a big fight against the famous Manny Pacquiao.

Horn vs. Pacquiao: A Big Fight

Jeff Horn was set to fight Manny Pacquiao, who was the WBO welterweight champion. The fight was in Brisbane on 2 July 2017. Many people were surprised by this fight. Pacquiao himself said he didn't know who Jeff Horn was at first!

The fight took place at Suncorp Stadium. After 12 rounds, Jeff Horn won against Pacquiao. The judges decided he won by a unanimous decision. This means all the judges agreed he was the winner. Horn vs. Tszyu

On 26 August 2020, Horn fought Tim Tszyu. Tszyu was a rising star in Australian boxing. Tszyu knocked Horn down twice during the fight. Horn's team decided to stop the fight after the eighth round.

Retirement from Boxing

On 2 July 2023, Jeff Horn announced that he was retiring from boxing. He said he wanted to focus on his role as an ambassador for an anti-bullying foundation. He mentioned that he had turned down offers of $1 million to return to the ring after his last fight in August 2020.

Jeff Horn lives in Brisbane, Australia. His father, Jeff Horn Sr., is a builder. His mother, Liza Dykstra, works for a charity called the Saint Vincent de Paul Society. His grandfather, Ray Horn, also boxed in exhibition matches in the 1930s.

Jeff Horn has a university degree in education. He used to work as a physical education teacher at a school in Brisbane. His daughter was born in 2017.

When he was younger, Jeff Horn was bullied at school. He has said that this is why he started boxing. He wanted to learn how to defend himself. Now, he is an ambassador for an Australian anti-bullying foundation. He visits schools to talk about how to handle conflicts.
