Jeffrey's Early Life
Jeffrey was born in Edmonton, Alberta, in 1984. He was adopted when he was just 12 days old. His last name, Bowyer-Chapman, comes from his adoptive parents. His younger brother, Cleyon Laing, is a professional football player for the Toronto Argonauts. Jeffrey's biological father is from Jamaica.
He grew up with his sister in Rimbey, Alberta. This was a small town with fewer than 2,000 people. People sometimes called it "the Texas of the north." Jeffrey described the area as focused on oil, gas, farming, and ranching. Growing up as a biracial person in this small town was a unique experience for him. He felt he had to learn a lot and grow up quickly in some unusual situations.
Jeffrey lived in Rimbey until he was a teenager. Then he moved to Vancouver. At 15, he started traveling the world as a model. He visited countries in Europe, South Africa, and all across North America. Later, at age 21, he returned to Vancouver. This is when he started focusing more on his acting career. After acting in his first movie, he moved to New York. He lived there for seven years before moving to Los Angeles in September 2016.
Jeffrey's Acting and Modeling Career
Jeffrey started modeling when he was 15 years old. Friends and school teachers encouraged him to try it. His first photo shoot was in Calgary. By age 18 or 19, he was earning good money from modeling. He worked on advertisements, catalogs, and campaigns for brands like Levi's and American Apparel. He is represented by Wilhelmina Models, a well-known modeling agency.
Alongside modeling, Jeffrey also began an acting career. His first movie was Shock to the System in 2006. In 2007, Out magazine featured him as one of "Canada's Coolest." Mwinda magazine also listed him in a special issue in 2009. He has modeled in many countries, including the United States, Canada, South Africa, and Europe. He also worked on international campaigns for American Apparel and Levi's.
He appeared in TV shows like Noah's Arc and The L Word. He was also in the movie The Break-Up Artist (2009). From 2009 to 2011, Jeffrey had a regular role in the Syfy series Stargate Universe.
In 2012, he starred with Jussie Smollett in the romantic comedy-drama film The Skinny. In 2015, he started starring in the TV series Unreal. He played the role of Jay, a reality television producer. The show was a popular drama series. In 2016, Jeffrey was in the comedy film Dirty Grandpa. In 2018, he joined the TV series American Horror Story for its eighth season, called Apocalypse.
In September 2019, he became one of the three main judges on the first season of Canada's Drag Race. This show is the Canadian version of RuPaul's Drag Race. During the show, he faced some challenges. He decided not to return for the second season, which was announced in March 2021. In May 2021, Jeffrey and his fellow judges from Canada's Drag Race won an award. They received the Canadian Screen Award for Best Host or Presenter. This was for a Factual or Reality/Competition Series.
