Iron Man: Armored Adventures is a cool 3D computer-animated TV show. It's based on the famous Marvel Comics superhero Iron Man. The show first aired in the United States on Nicktoons on April 24, 2009. It also played on Teletoon in Canada.

This series is different from the 2007 animated movie The Invincible Iron Man. It has a new group of voice actors. However, some parts of the story are similar. The show also uses some of the same music as the movie. Iron Man: Armored Adventures was the first Iron Man TV series since the one from 1994. It started after the live-action Iron Man movie became a big hit.

The show follows the exciting adventures of a super-smart teenager named Tony Stark. He is secretly the hero Iron Man. Tony uses his amazing inventions to fight bad guys who also have advanced technology. His best friends, James "Rhodey" Rhodes and Pepper Potts, join him on his brave and often dangerous missions.

The second season of the show started on July 13, 2011. It aired around the same time as another Iron Man anime series from Japan. Later, on August 25, 2012, Iron Man: Armored Adventures became part of The CW's Saturday morning kids' block called Vortexx. But after November 24, 2012, the show was replaced by Transformers: Prime. Good news for fans: as of January 2021, you can watch both seasons of Iron Man: Armored Adventures on Disney+!

In the huge world of Marvel Comics, the universe where Iron Man: Armored Adventures takes place is known as Earth-904913.

The Story of Iron Man: Armored Adventures

When Tony Stark is 16, his dad, Howard Stark, disappears. Howard was a big inventor. He vanished in a plane crash after saying no to making a super-weapon for Obadiah Stane. Tony, a genius, uses a special suit of armor he built. He wants to find out if Stane had anything to do with his father's disappearance.

As Iron Man, Tony works to stop Stane's evil plans. He also saves the world from other villains. These bad guys include Mandarin, Mr. Fix, Whiplash, A.I.M., Living Laser, and M.O.D.O.K.. His friends, James Rhodes and Pepper Potts, help him fight crime. Tony often has to make up excuses for being late or missing school because of his superhero duties. He needs his amazing technology to survive. Tony has to balance being a normal teenager with being a superhero.

First Season Adventures

The first season of Iron Man: Armored Adventures has 26 episodes. In this season, Tony Stark, James "Rhodey" Rhodes, Pepper, and Gene Khan work together. They try to find five powerful rings called the Makluan Rings. Gene secretly works to steal the rings from his friends. He ends up betraying them, which makes Pepper very upset.

This season also features the Madame Masque story. Tony's fight with Obadiah Stane also moves forward. The season ends with two big cliffhangers. Gene finds out there are five more rings besides the first five. Tony discovers his father, Howard, is alive but being held prisoner. Also, Tony's armor workshop is destroyed, making it harder to rescue his dad.

Some special guest heroes appear in this season. They include Black Panther, Hulk, Rick Jones, and Nick Fury from S.H.I.E.L.D..

Second Season Adventures

The second season also has 26 episodes. New characters like Black Widow, Hawkeye, Doctor Doom, and Magneto appear. Old villains like Mr. Fix, Whiplash, and Obadiah Stane return.

The second season covers the Armor Wars and Stane International stories. In the first half, Tony and Rhodey (as War Machine) fight many people. These villains have stolen Tony's armor technology. They want to use the stolen Iron Man plans for their own bad reasons. One enemy, Ghost, steals Iron Man's plans and knows Tony's secret identity. Ghost sells the plans but promises not to tell who Iron Man is until Tony turns 18.

Justin Hammer creates an armor called Titanium Man using the stolen plans. Doctor Doom also teams up with Stane to get Iron Man's armor system. Stane builds the Iron Monger armor, which is much bigger than in the comic books. The Armor Wars end when Obadiah Stane finds out Iron Man's secret. Stane then steals the Iron Monger armor and tries to destroy Tony for good.

While Tony is busy with the Armor Wars, his father, Howard Stark, is alive. Gene forces Howard to find the other five Makluan Rings. Gene manages to get the sixth, seventh, eighth, and ninth rings for himself.

The second half of season two is about the "Stane International" story. Justin Hammer (not Obadiah Stane) successfully buys control of Stark International. Tony, Rhodey, and Pepper decide to fight against Hammer. He wants to turn Stark International's projects into weapons. Tony and Rhodey start a new company called "Stark Solutions" to fight back.

By the end of the second season, Pepper gets her own armored suit and becomes the hero known as Rescue!

How the Show Was Made

Before the Show Aired

Months before Iron Man: Armored Adventures was on TV, Marvel showed the first episode at the San Diego Comic-Con. Fans could also meet the show's co-producer and head writer. A trailer for the show was released on Marvel's official website: http://marvel.com. Many behind-the-scenes videos were also shared before the show started in the US.

The Theme Song

The popular rock band Rooney recorded the catchy theme song for the series. You could once download the song from Teletoon's website. To get it, you needed a "secret code" that was shown during the first few episodes in Canada. The music video for the song shows Rooney singing and clips of Iron Man from the show.

Animation Style

The series uses computer-generated imagery (CGI) for its animation. This is similar to how shows like Spider-Man: The New Animated Series were made. The animation looks a bit like a comic book, but it's all done with computers.

How This Show is Different

Origin Story Changes

In Iron Man: Armored Adventures, Tony Stark becomes Iron Man when he's a teenager. His friends Pepper Potts and James Rhodes are also teenagers. In the original comic books, Tony becomes Iron Man as an adult. Also, Pepper and Tony have just met in this show, but in the comics, they've been friends for a long time.

Usually, Tony's parents died in a car crash. But in this show, Tony's father, Howard Stark, disappears in a plane crash in the first episode. Howard is actually alive and helps Tony in his adventures! Howard uses alien technology from one of the Mandarin's rings to create his inventions. In the comics, Howard never met the Mandarin or had his rings.

Tony also gets a heart injury in the plane crash in this show. In other stories, he gets hurt by an explosion during a war. Tony builds his Iron Man armor at home in this series. In other versions, he builds a basic suit to escape after being captured. In the show, a doctor named Ho Yinsen saves Tony by installing special technology. This is different from the comics, where Yinsen meets Tony while they are both prisoners of war.

Iron Man's Armor

Iron Man's first armor in the show looks a lot like the armor from the 2008 live-action movie. The helmet is a bit different, and the armor is less yellow. This armor can form around Tony from different parts he puts on. It can also create a force field from his repulsor blasts.

Tony also uses many other special armors for different situations. These include the Silver Centurion Armor, the Stealth Armor, and the Hulkbuster armor.

In the second season, the armor changes. It looks more like the armor from the second live-action movie. It also has parts that remind you of the Extremis armor from the comics. Tony can call the armor to himself, which is a cool new ability. One big change is that the circular light on his chest becomes a triangle.

DVD Releases

The first episode of the show was a bonus feature on the Wal-Mart edition of the live-action Iron Man movie DVD.

The first DVD, "Volume One," came out in the United States on October 20, 2009. A Blu-ray version was sold only at Best Buy. In the UK, "Volume One" had the first 13 episodes. "Volume Two" was released in the US on January 5, 2010. The "Complete Season One" DVD set came out on May 4, 2010.

"Season Two, Volume One" was released on DVD on June 26, 2012. "Volume Two" came out on September 25, 2012. The "Complete Season 2" DVD box set was released on April 23, 2013.

Awards the Show Won

In 2012, Iron Man: Armored Adventures won the Pulcinella Award for Best TV Series for Teens. This is a big award for animated shows!

In 2013, TV Guide magazine included it on their list of the 60 greatest cartoons of all time.
