Spider-Man: The New Animated Series is an animated TV show based on the famous Marvel comic book character Spider-Man. It is also known as Spider-Man 2003 or MTV Spider-Man. This series continues the story from the 2002 Spider-Man movie.
The show uses CGI (computer-generated images) with a special look called cel shading. This makes the 3D animation look like traditional 2D cartoons. The series only had one season with 13 episodes. It first aired on July 11, 2003, on MTV in the United States and YTV in Canada.
Years later, on October 13, 2018, the show started airing again on Viceland. This was the first time it was shown on TV in 15 years.

About the Series
This animated series takes place shortly after the events of the 2002 Spider-Man movie. Peter Parker, who is secretly Spider-Man, starts attending Empire State University. His friends Mary Jane Watson and Harry Osborn also go to the same university.
Peter and Mary Jane try to have a relationship, but it's often difficult. Peter's secret life as Spider-Man, and sometimes his interest in another character named Indira Daimonji, get in the way of his romance with Mary Jane. Meanwhile, Harry Osborn keeps blaming Spider-Man for the death of his father, Norman Osborn. Harry doesn't know that his father was secretly the Green Goblin.
Spider-Man faces many different villains in the series. These include the Lizard, Kraven the Hunter, and Electro. Peter also tries to balance his superhero duties with his studies and a job. In one part of the series, he even meets two psychic twins who cause a lot of trouble. This makes Peter think about giving up being Spider-Man to live a normal life.
Main Characters
Peter Parker / Spider-Man
Neil Patrick Harris voices Peter Parker / Spider-Man. Peter is a college student at Empire State University. He also works as a photographer for the Daily Bugle newspaper. After being bitten by a spider, he gained amazing powers. He wants to use these powers to help people as Spider-Man. However, it's hard for him to balance being a superhero with his schoolwork and his relationship with Mary Jane Watson.
Mary Jane Watson
Lisa Loeb voices Mary Jane Watson. Mary Jane is a student at Empire State University. She also works as a model and actress. She is Peter Parker's on-and-off girlfriend. She also seems to like Spider-Man, but she doesn't know that Peter and Spider-Man are the same person.
Harry Osborn
Ian Ziering voices Harry Osborn. Harry is the son of the rich businessman Norman Osborn, who has passed away. He goes to Empire State University with Peter and Mary Jane. Harry blames Spider-Man for his father's death. He wants revenge, but he doesn't know that his father was secretly the Green Goblin. As the series goes on, Harry starts to trust Spider-Man more. He even helps Spider-Man defeat Electro and lets Spider-Man rescue him from the Lizard.
Other Important Characters
Indira "Indy" Daimonji
Angelle Brooks voices Indira "Indy" Daimonji. Indy is a new character created just for this series. She works at Empire One Television Studio. She is often seen as a rival for Mary Jane's attention from Peter. Indy shows a strong interest in Peter Parker, which sometimes makes Mary Jane upset.
J. Jonah Jameson
Keith Carradine voices J. Jonah Jameson. He is the publisher of the Daily Bugle newspaper. Just like in the comic books and movies, Jameson often criticizes Spider-Man. He tries to make Spider-Man look bad in the news, usually when Peter Parker is around. He is so passionate about this that he even appears on other news shows to speak against Spider-Man.
Guest Voices
Many famous actors and musicians lent their voices to characters in the show.
- Stan Lee, who helped create Spider-Man, voices Frank Elson.
- Rob Zombie voices Dr. Curt Connors / Lizard.
- Eve voices Cheyenne / Talon, a thief.
- Michael Clarke Duncan voices Kingpin. He had played this character before in the Daredevil movie.
