Keith Ian Carradine (born August 8, 1949) is an American actor. He is famous for his roles in movies like Nashville, Pretty Baby, and Choose Me. On television, he has played characters such as Wild Bill Hickok in Deadwood, FBI agent Frank Lundy in Dexter, and U.S. President Conrad Dalton in Madam Secretary.
Keith Carradine is part of the famous Carradine family of actors. His father, John Carradine, was also a well-known actor.

Early Life and Family
Keith Carradine was born on August 8, 1949, in San Mateo, California. His mother was an actress and artist named Sonia Sorel, and his father was the actor John Carradine. Keith has two full brothers, Christopher and Robert Carradine, who are also actors. He also has half-brothers, Bruce and David Carradine, and a maternal half-brother, Michael Bowen.
When Keith was young, his parents divorced. He was mostly raised by his grandmother in San Mateo. He later attended Ojai Valley School, where he enjoyed acting in school plays. After high school, he thought about becoming a forest ranger and went to Colorado State University. However, he soon changed his mind and decided to pursue acting. His older half-brother, David, encouraged him and helped him start his acting career.
Starting His Acting Career
Keith Carradine had some experience in theater from performing with his father in Shakespeare plays. His acting career officially began in 1969 when he joined the original Broadway musical Hair. He started in the chorus and eventually played lead roles. He said he didn't even plan to audition but went along with his brother and friends.
In 1991, Keith was nominated for a Tony Award for Best Actor in a Musical for his role as the main character in The Will Rogers Follies. He also won an Outer Critics Circle Award for his work in the play Foxfire. In 2013, he was nominated for another Tony Award for Best Featured Actor in a Musical for Hands on a Hardbody.
Film Roles

Keith Carradine's first important movie role was in director Robert Altman's McCabe & Mrs. Miller in 1971. He also appeared with Kirk Douglas and Johnny Cash in A Gunfight that same year. In 1975, he played a folk singer named Tom Frank in Altman's popular film Nashville. This role made him very well-known.
In 1977, he starred in The Duellists and then in Pretty Baby in 1978. He also worked with director Alan Rudolph on several unique films, including Choose Me (1984), Trouble in Mind (1985), and The Moderns (1988).
Keith appeared with his brothers David and Robert in the 1980 film The Long Riders, where they played the Younger brothers. He also had a small role as Will Rogers in the 1994 film Mrs. Parker and the Vicious Circle. In 2011, he was in the science fiction western movie Cowboys & Aliens, which also starred Daniel Craig and Harrison Ford. More recently, he played Edward Dickinson, the father of poet Emily Dickinson, in the 2016 film A Quiet Passion. In 2017, he starred in Ray Meets Helen, which was the last movie for actress Sondra Locke.
Music and Songwriting
Keith Carradine is also a talented musician. His brother David once said that Keith could play any instrument. In 1975, Keith performed a song he wrote called "I'm Easy" in the movie Nashville. The song became a big hit, and Keith won a Golden Globe and an Oscar for it. This led to him releasing two music albums, I'm Easy (1976) and Lost & Found (1978). In the early 1990s, he played the lead role in the musical The Will Rogers Follies, which won a Tony Award.

From 2003 to 2004, Carradine hosted the Wild West Tech series on the History Channel. He also played FBI Special Agent Frank Lundy in the Showtime series Dexter. He appeared as Penny's father, Wyatt, on the CBS sitcom The Big Bang Theory. From 2014 to 2015, he had a recurring role as Lou Solverson in the FX series Fargo. He also played President Conrad Dalton on the CBS political drama Madam Secretary from 2014 to 2019.
In 2016, Keith Carradine hosted a month-long series of Western films on Turner Classic Movies. He discussed movies like Stagecoach, which featured his father, and McCabe & Mrs. Miller, in which he also appeared.

Keith Carradine has four children. His daughter, Martha Plimpton, is also an actress. He has two children, Cade Richmond Carradine and Sorel Carradine, with his first wife, Sandra Will.
On November 18, 2006, Keith Carradine married actress Hayley DuMond in Turin, Italy. They had met in 1997 while working together on the film The Hunter's Moon.
