Jeffrey William Cook (born 2 February 1972) is an Australian cricketer. He played professionally, mostly for a team called Northamptonshire in England. He was known as a left-handed batsman and a right-arm medium bowler.

Jeff Cook's Cricket Journey

Starting Young

Jeff Cook began his cricket career in Australia. He played for the New South Wales Under-17s team in the 1988/89 season. This was his first step into competitive cricket.

Later, in 1993, he moved to England. There, he started playing in local cricket leagues. This helped him gain more experience in the sport.

Playing for County Teams

After playing in local leagues, Jeff joined different county teams in England. He played for the second teams of Leicestershire in 1997 and Derbyshire in 1998.

In 1999, Jeff moved to Northamptonshire. He played for their second team for a year. Then, in 2000, he joined their main team. He received his County Cap in 2003. This is a special award given to players who have played well for their county team.

Jeff played 144 matches for Northamptonshire. He was especially good in the one-day cricket games. He left the club in 2004.

Playing for England (as a Substitute)

In 2001, Jeff had a unique chance to be part of an England Test match. He acted as a substitute fielder against the Pakistan team. This happened at the famous Lord's Cricket Ground. He filled in because the England captain, Nasser Hussain, was injured.

Life After Professional Cricket

Discovering His Heritage

After finishing his professional cricket career, Jeff returned to Australia. There, he learned something important about his family. He found out he was of Kamilaroi Australian Aboriginal descent.

Playing for Aboriginal Teams

Jeff became involved in Aboriginal cricket. In 2006, he captained the New South Wales Aboriginal cricket team. They played in a tournament called the Imparja Cup.

From 2007 to 2009, he also played for the New South Wales Country team. He even captained this team in the 2008/09 season.

Current Role

Today, Jeff Cook works for the New South Wales Cricket Association. He is the Regional Cricket Manager for northern New South Wales. In this role, he helps manage and promote cricket in the region.
