Jenna Heap is a main character in the exciting Septimus Heap book series, written by Angie Sage. She is the adopted sister of Septimus. Silas and Sarah Heap are her adopted parents. Jenna has many friends in the books. But she also faces many enemies. Even though she knows they are not her birth family, Jenna loves her adopted family very much. This includes her seven brothers, her Grandpa Benji, her mum and dad, and her Aunt Zelda.

Who is Jenna Heap?

Jenna is a young princess. She has deep violet eyes and fair skin. She is small for her age. Jenna wears a red tunic with a golden sash around her waist. A thin golden circlet holds her dark hair in place. This circlet shows that she is the princess. Her look is much like the queens who came before her. She also looks a lot like her birth mother. Jenna is very loving and caring. But she can also be quite stubborn. Her older brothers often notice this about her.

Jenna's Story in the Books

How Jenna Joined the Heap Family

After Jenna was born, her mother, Queen Cerys, was sadly killed. Marcia Overstrand, who was the apprentice to the ExtraOrdinary Wizard, took baby Jenna to safety. She did this after seeing the ExtraOrdinary Wizard and the queen murdered. To keep the young princess safe, Marcia gave her to Silas Heap. Silas was an Ordinary Wizard. Silas' seventh son, Septimus, was born on the same day as Jenna. But he was thought to have died. Silas and his wife, Sarah Heap, adopted and raised the princess as their own.

Jenna's Adventures Begin

In the first book, Magyk, Marcia tells Jenna a big secret. On her 10th birthday, Jenna learns she is a princess. She also finds out that people have discovered her. Marcia escapes with Jenna to the Marram Marshes. Silas, his son Nicko, and a young army guard named Boy 412 join them. At Aunt Zelda's home in the Marshes, Jenna becomes friends with Boy 412. She also starts to learn magic from Marcia.

Jenna, Boy 412, and Nicko find a hidden Dragon-Boat. Jenna learns this boat is part of her royal family's history. They use it to save Marcia. At the end of the first book, Jenna discovers a huge surprise. Boy 412 is actually her long-lost adopted brother, Septimus Heap.

Facing New Challenges

The second book, Flyte, starts with Jenna being kidnapped. Her brother Simon, who is not friendly, takes her to his hideout. This hideout is in a place called the Badlands. Jenna escapes and meets her brothers Septimus and Nicko at the port. But a mysterious stranger follows her.

Simon's tracking ball, Sleuth, finds Jenna and the others. A battle begins. The Dragon-Boat helps Jenna's side. Simon damages the Dragon-Boat, but he gets captured. Jenna loves the Dragon-Boat very much. She becomes very upset. She goes to a secret room in the Palace. Only queens or princesses can enter this room. She asks Aunt Zelda to do a special spell to fix the boat. In the end, the dark stranger is revealed to be her birth father, Milo Banda.

Journey Through Time

In Physik, the ghost of the evil Queen Etheldredda plays a trick. She makes Jenna send Septimus back in time. He goes to her son, Marcellus Pye. Jenna is determined to get Septimus back. Her brother, Nicko, helps her. So does Snorri Snorrelssen, a trader girl from the North. Together, they travel back in time to find Septimus.

In the past, it's clear that Jenna looks a lot like Etheldredda's daughter, Princess Esmeralda. During this adventure, Jenna starts to accept her role as princess more and more.

Quests and Friendships

Septimus is tricked into going on a queste. Jenna and Beetle go with him. They travel to the famous "House of Foryx." Nicko and Snorri might be trapped there. Jenna helps Septimus search for them. They finally find them. By this time, Jenna has grown into a mature girl and a young princess. Septimus' friend Beetle starts to like her.

In Syren, Jenna is returning from helping Septimus on his queste. They meet up with Milo Banda. Nicko and Snorri stay on the boat "Cerys." But Jenna, Beetle, and Septimus fly home on Spit Fyre. On their way, they get stuck on an island with a strange girl. With help from Lucy Gringe, Wolf Boy, and Jakey Fry, they stop Skipper Fry and Tertius Fume. These two were trying to take over the castle with an army of jinn.

Jenna's Special Traits

Important Relationships

Jenna is very close with her adopted brothers, Septimus and Nicko. Even though she learned who her birth parents are, she still loves Silas and Sarah just as much. When she met her birth father, Milo Banda, they argued. She was upset he hadn't come for her sooner. But later, they made up.

Jenna likes the ghost of the ExtraOrdinary Wizard, Alther Mella. She is sometimes amazed by Marcia. At first, she likes Snorri. But she later blames Snorri for Nicko getting stuck in the past. They don't really become close friends. Beetle seems to have romantic feelings for Jenna. Jenna doesn't notice this. This leads Beetle to decide he no longer likes her that way, though he still seems unsure. In Fyre, Jenna starts to notice Beetle pushing her away. She realizes she might have done the same to him.

Jenna's Possessions

Jenna Heap wears a golden circlet on her head like a crown. In the first book, Jenna had a pet rock named Petroc Trelawney. This rock helped her remember her life at the castle. The rock wandered off during one of her visits. But Wolf Boy finds it later at Aunt Zelda's cottage. He returns it to Jenna.

She also used to have a silver bullet and the Hunter's pistol. She got both of these during her first visit to the Keeper's Cottage. This was when the Hunter was chasing her. Septimus gave her a Quetzalcoatl chocolate charm. This charm helps her escape from Simon. In the third book, Princess Esmeralda's diary is very important. It tells Jenna the truth about Etheldredda. It also gives her a warning and time to escape. She also has Snorri's map to the House of Foryx. This map was fixed from the manuscriptorium. Jenna has a pet duck named Ethel. She saved Ethel from becoming orange soup during Etheldredda's time. Jenna also has the True Crown. She got it after Queen Etheldredda's ghost was destroyed.

Magical Abilities

Jenna does not have many magical powers. This is because she does not have magical blood in her family. She can do some magic. But it is not easy for her. She will never have the green eyes that wizards are known for. However, it is suggested that queens have some kind of magical power. Jenna also has a special connection with the Dragon-Boat. This connection runs through the Queen's family line.

Jenna's Family Connections

Jenna is the adopted sister of Simon, Sam, Edd, Erik (who are twins), Jo-Jo, Nicko, and Septimus Heap. She seems closest with Nicko and Septimus. Her relationship with Simon was broken. This happened after Simon joined DomDaniel. He tried to overthrow Marcia and kill Jenna. Sam, Jo-Jo, Erik, and Edd all moved to Camp Heap in the forest. They refused to leave. They still seem to love Jenna. But none of them try to contact the outside world. Not even when Jenna is kidnapped or when Septimus goes through the Doors of Time.

Her adopted parents are Silas and Sarah Heap. Her birth parents are Milo Banda and Queen Cerys.
