The Jenne Block is a cool, two-story brick building in downtown Douglas, Wyoming. It's known for being the most fancy commercial building in Douglas. It has lots of special decorations made from terra cotta, which is a type of baked clay.
A rancher and businessman named Jacob Jenne had it built in 1916. Edward A. Reavill was the builder. When it first opened, the Jenne Block was home to a bank and the local Douglas Enterprise newspaper. Many other businesses and offices were also located there.
What Does the Jenne Block Look Like?
The Jenne Block is a rectangular building. It is about 30 meters (100 feet) long and 8 meters (26 feet) wide. The main entrance is at a corner. It faces where Center and South Third Streets meet.
Above this corner entrance, there is a special decoration. It is made of terra cotta and has the letters "JJ" on it. These letters stand for Jacob Jenne, the man who built it. There is also another entrance in the middle of the long side. This one leads to the upper floors. Stairs to the basement are hidden underneath. The sides of the building that don't face the street are just plain brick walls.
