About Jennifer Alleyn
Jennifer Alleyn was born in Switzerland. Her father, Edmund Alleyn, was also a well-known artist. Jennifer studied film at Concordia University in Montreal.
Before she became a filmmaker, Jennifer worked as a journalist. A journalist is someone who writes news stories for newspapers or magazines. She wrote for big newspapers like Le Devoir, Montreal Gazette, and La Presse. She also wrote for Elle Québec magazine. Jennifer even traveled around the world! She did this while taking part in a TV show called La Course destination monde for Radio-Canada.
Her Films and Awards
Jennifer Alleyn has created many interesting films. In 1996, she wrote and directed a part of the film Cosmos. Her segment was called "Aurore et Crépuscule." The film Cosmos was even shown at the famous Cannes film festival!
In 2003, her short film Svanok won an award. It was named the best short fiction film by the Quebec film critics.
Jennifer made a special film in 2006 about her father. It was called L’atelier de mon père, sur les traces d’Edmund Alleyn (which means "My Father's Studio, Following Edmund Alleyn's Footsteps"). This film was chosen as the best Canadian film at the International Festival of Films on Art in Montreal. It also won a Prix Gémeaux, which is a big award for TV and film in Canada.
In 2010, she directed a film called Dix fois Dix about the painter Otto Dix. This film also won an award called the Prix Tremplin pour le monde ARTV.
More recently, in 2018, Jennifer directed and produced a film called Impetus. This movie is a mix of drama and other styles. A famous director, Denis Villeneuve, said it was "Playful like a Godard or Varda film. Brilliant and moving." Impetus was shown at film festivals in Utah (Slamdance) and Italy (Torino). In 2019, Jennifer Alleyn received the PRIX CREATION award for her amazing work in Quebec cinema.
