Jennifer Joan Fowler (born 14 April 1939) is a talented British composer who was born in Australia. A composer is someone who writes music. She has created many different kinds of musical pieces throughout her career.

Early Life and Education

Jennifer Fowler was born in Bunbury, Australia. She loved music from a young age. She studied music at the University of Western Australia. She earned two degrees there, one in 1960 and another in 1967. While she was a student, Jennifer won several awards for her compositions. Her music was even played at the Festival of Perth and on the radio by the ABC.

In 1968, she spent a year working with electronic music in the Netherlands. This was at the University of Utrecht. The next year, in 1969, she moved to London, England. She has lived and worked there as a composer ever since. Jennifer is married to Bruce Paterson and they have two sons.

Awards and Achievements

Jennifer Fowler has received many special awards for her music. These awards show how much her work is appreciated around the world.

  • 1970: She won a prize from the Academy of the Arts in Berlin, Germany.
  • 1971: She was a joint winner of the Radcliffe Award in Great Britain.
  • 1975: She won first prize in an international competition for women composers in Mannheim, Germany.
  • 2001: Her piece Eat and Be Eaten received a High Commendation at the Paul Lowin Song Cycle Awards.
  • 2003: She was given the Miriam Gideon prize from the International Association of Women in Music.
  • 2006: She won second prize in the Christopher Bodman Memorial Competition in the UK.
  • 2009: She received the International Sylvia Glickman Memorial Prize.
  • 2009: She was the winner of the Marin Goleminov First International Composition Contest in Bulgaria.
