Growing Up in Vancouver
Jennifer Gasoi grew up in Vancouver, British Columbia. She went to McGill University and earned a degree in Social Work in 1996. While at McGill, Jennifer sang in a jazz choir. This choir was led by the famous jazz singer Ranee Lee. After university, Jennifer continued to improve her jazz skills. She studied jazz at Capilano University.
Jennifer's Music Career
After finishing her studies, Jennifer Gasoi sang in jazz concerts. She performed in Vancouver with musician Linton Garner. From 1999 to 2001, she also appeared at the Vancouver International Jazz Festival.
In 2002, Jennifer moved to Montreal. Two years later, she released her first album for children. It was called Songs For You.
Winning a Grammy Award
In late 2012, Jennifer released her second children's album. It was titled Throw a Penny in the Wishing Well. This album was nominated for a Juno Award for Children's Album of the Year. The Juno Awards are very important music awards in Canada.
Then, in 2014, her album was nominated for a Grammy Award. The Grammy Awards are one of the biggest music awards in the world! Jennifer Gasoi won the Grammy Award for Best Children's Album. She was the first Canadian artist to win a Grammy in this category.
