Jennifer Chambers Lynch (born April 7, 1968) is an American director and writer for movies and television. She is the daughter of the famous filmmaker David Lynch. She is known for directing her first movie, Boxing Helena, in 1993.
After a very difficult start to her career, Jennifer took a long break from making movies. She returned in 2008 with the film Surveillance. Since then, she has directed many popular television shows. Some of these include Psych, Teen Wolf, The Walking Dead, American Horror Story, and Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.
Besides filmmaking, Jennifer also wrote a book in 1990 called The Secret Diary of Laura Palmer. The book was based on a character from her father's TV show Twin Peaks. It became a bestseller.

Early Life and Family
Jennifer Chambers Lynch was born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, on April 7, 1968. Her father is the filmmaker David Lynch, and her mother is the painter Peggy Reavey. She has some Finnish family history through her father. When she was six, she started practicing Transcendental Meditation. She later went to the Interlochen Arts Academy, where she studied art and writing.
Career in Film and Television
Jennifer grew up around filmmaking. She was supposed to be in her father's first movie, Eraserhead, but her part was cut. Later, she worked as a production assistant on his 1986 film Blue Velvet. This job gave her valuable experience on a movie set.
Starting with 'Boxing Helena'
Jennifer's career as a director began with the movie Boxing Helena (1993). She wrote the script, which got the attention of many famous actresses. However, making the movie was very challenging.
When the film was released, it got very bad reviews from critics and did not make much money. Some people also criticized her because her father was a famous director. The negative reaction was so strong that Jennifer decided to take a 15-year break from directing movies. She later said that the criticism was very hard to handle, but that having her daughter helped her get through that difficult time.
Returning to Directing
After her long break, Jennifer returned to direct the movie Surveillance in 2008. The film won the top prize at the Sitges Film Festival, a famous film festival in Spain. This marked a successful comeback for her.
A few years later, she directed and co-wrote the thriller Chained (2012). This movie received mostly positive reviews from critics, showing that she had grown as a filmmaker.
Working in Television
Since 2012, Jennifer has become a very busy television director. She has directed episodes for many popular and successful TV series. Her work shows her skill in different genres, from teen dramas to horror and action shows.

Writing and Other Projects

In 2012, a documentary called Despite the Gods was released. It showed the challenges Jennifer faced while trying to make the movie Hisss in India. The producers ended up changing the movie so much that she asked for her name to be removed from the final version.
Personal Life
In an interview, Jennifer shared that she had a car accident when she was 19. Because of the accident, she needed three major surgeries on her spine. She also has a daughter, who she says helped her through the tough times early in her career.
