Jennifer Ann Scott was born in 1960. She is a British mathematician. She works with numbers and computers. Her special areas are numerical analysis, sparse matrix computations, and parallel computing.

She is a professor of applied mathematics at the University of Reading. There, she leads a center about the mathematics of our planet. She also works for the Science and Technology Facilities Council. This is at the Rutherford Appleton Laboratory.

Becoming a Math Expert

Jennifer Scott studied at the University of Oxford. She earned her D.Phil. degree in 1984. Her big research project was about different ways to solve math problems.

After Oxford, she worked as a junior research fellow. She also worked at the National Radiological Protection Board. In 1986, she was a finalist for a special award. This award was the Leslie Fox Prize for Numerical Analysis.

In 1987, a scientist named Iain S. Duff asked her to join the Harwell Laboratory. This lab is now part of the Rutherford Appleton Laboratory. She became a full professor at the University of Reading in 2016.

Awards and Recognition

Jennifer Scott is a Fellow of the Institute of Mathematics and its Applications. This means she is a recognized expert in math.

In 2021, she was named a SIAM Fellow. This is a special honor from the Society for Industrial and Applied Mathematics. She received this award for her important work. Her work helped create better ways to use computers to solve complex math problems.
