Jenny Elisabet Berthelius (born September 29, 1923 – died June 8, 2019) was a talented writer from Sweden. She was famous for writing exciting crime novels and wonderful books for children. Jenny wrote 24 mystery stories and 28 books just for kids!

Jenny Berthelius: Her Early Life
Jenny Berthelius was born in Stockholm, Sweden, on September 29, 1923. Her father was an office manager. Her mother was a singer and enjoyed reciting poems.
Jenny went to a girls' school in Helsingborg, finishing in 1940. She then passed her high school exams in 1942. Later in life, from 1978 to 1982, Jenny studied literature at Lund University.
Jenny Berthelius: Her Writing Career
Before becoming a full-time writer, Jenny Berthelius worked as a secretary. She also worked as a translator, changing books and documents from one language to another. However, she is best known for her thrilling detective novels.
Her First Novels
In 1968, Jenny published her very first novel, called Mördarens ansikte. This means The Killer's Face in English. After that, she wrote a new detective novel almost every year for the next twenty years! In 2007, she released a new detective book, Näckrosen, after a fifteen-year break.
Types of Stories She Wrote
Jenny's earliest mystery novels were "whodunnits." These are stories where the reader tries to guess who committed the crime. Later, starting in 1972, her books focused more on the characters' thoughts and feelings. These are called psychological themes.
Her two main characters were Inspector Singer, a detective, and Vera Kruse, a novelist. Jenny Berthelius wrote a total of 24 crime novels and 28 children's books.
Awards for Her Books
Jenny Berthelius received special recognition for her writing. In 1969, she won a prize from the newspaper Expressen. This award was for the best Swedish detective novel of the year.
In 2004, she was honored again. She received the Svenska Deckarakademins Grand Master-diplom. This is a very important award for crime writers in Sweden.

In 1944, Jenny married Sven Berthelius. They were married until 1970. Together, they had one daughter. Jenny Berthelius passed away in June 2019, at the age of 95.
