Jenny Lumet, born on February 2, 1967, is an American actress and writer for movies and TV shows. She is known for her work behind the scenes, especially for writing the movie Rachel Getting Married. Jenny is also part of a famous family; her father was the director Sidney Lumet, and her grandmother was the legendary singer Lena Horne. She has also worked on many popular Star Trek TV series.

Her Early Life and Family
Jenny Lumet was born in New York City on February 2, 1967. She is the second daughter of director Sidney Lumet. Her mother was Gail Buckley Jones, a journalist and writer. Jenny comes from a diverse family background.
Her paternal grandfather, Baruch Lumet, was a Yiddish theater actor. On her mother's side, her grandmother was the famous singer Lena Horne. Jenny graduated from the Dalton School in 1984.
Her Career in Film and TV
Jenny Lumet started her career as an actress. She had small roles in two movies directed by her father. These films were Deathtrap and Running on Empty. Later, she played Nancy Bosch in his 1990 film Q&A.
Lumet then moved into writing. She wrote the screenplay for the 2008 movie Rachel Getting Married. This film was directed by Jonathan Demme. She also worked as a "script doctor" for the 2017 movie The Mummy. A script doctor helps improve movie scripts.
In 2018, Jenny Lumet joined the team for the TV show Star Trek: Discovery. She started as a consulting producer. Later, she became a co-executive producer. She also helped write "Runaway," one of the Short Treks mini-episodes. She has continued to work on other Star Trek shows. These include Star Trek: Picard and Star Trek: Strange New Worlds. Jenny Lumet was married to actor Bobby Cannavale from 1994 to 2003. They have a son together, who is also an actor, Jake Cannavale. Jenny later married Alexander Weinstein in 2008. They have a daughter together.
