Jens Kristian Meinich Bratlie (born January 17, 1856 – died September 15, 1939) was an important Norwegian lawyer and military officer. He was also a leading politician for the Conservative Party. He even served as the Prime Minister of Norway from 1912 to 1913.

Jens Bratlie's Early Life and Family
Jens Bratlie was born in Nordre Land, which is a municipality in Oppland, Norway. He came from a family with many successful business people and government workers. His parents were Erik Bratlie and Bolette Sofie Meinich. After his mother passed away, Jens was adopted by a well-known industrialist named Jørgen Meinich.
Education and Military Career
Jens Bratlie was a very smart and dedicated student. He finished his studies at the Military High School in 1880. This training helped him become an army officer. Over time, he rose through the ranks to become a Major General.
Besides his military training, he also earned a law degree in 1886. This allowed him to work in important government jobs. For several years, he worked as a secretary in the Department of Defense. He became a Captain in 1893 and later a General Commission Commissioner in 1898. From 1906, he served as the General Attorney for the Armenian Judiciary.

Jens Bratlie was very active in Norwegian politics. He held several important positions.
Leader of the Conservative Party
He was the leader of the Conservative Party from 1911 to 1919. This meant he was in charge of guiding the party's goals and actions.
President of the Storting
From 1910 to 1912, Jens Bratlie served as the President of the Storting. The Storting is Norway's parliament, similar to a congress or assembly in other countries. Being its president is a very high honor.
Member of Parliament
Bratlie was also a member of the Storting (the Norwegian Parliament) for many years. He represented the city of Kristiania, which is now known as Oslo. He served two terms: from 1900 to 1912 and again from 1916 to 1918.
Ministerial Positions
During his time as Prime Minister, Jens Bratlie also held two other important government jobs. From 1912 to 1913, he was the Minister of Defence. This role meant he was responsible for Norway's military and national security. At the same time, he was also the Minister of Auditing. This job involved checking government accounts to make sure everything was correct and fair.
Later Life and Legacy
Jens Bratlie passed away in 1939. He was buried at Vår Frelsers gravlund, a well-known cemetery in Oslo. His long career in both the military and politics left a lasting mark on Norway's history.
