The Story of Jensens Bøfhus
How It All Started
The story of Jensens Bøfhus began in 1984. A man named Palle Skov Jensen opened his first restaurant in the city of Aarhus, Denmark. At that time, the restaurant was called Bøfhus España.
In 1990, the name was changed to Jensens Bøfhus. By then, the company had grown to four restaurants.
Trying to Grow
Jensens Bøfhus tried to expand into other countries. They opened a restaurant in Lübeck, a city in Germany. However, this plan was not successful. The company decided to close its German restaurant and leave the country in 2016.
Challenges for the Company
A Legal Disagreement
The company faced a difficult time when it took a small fish restaurant to court. Jensens Bøfhus argued that the small restaurant was using a name that was too similar to their brand.
Jensens Bøfhus won the legal case. However, many people in Denmark felt it was unfair for a large company to sue a small business. This caused public opinion to turn against the chain.
Financial Troubles
In 2017, the company lost a lot of money. Because of these losses, Jensens Bøfhus had to close several of its restaurants in Denmark in 2018.
Even with these challenges, the company's founder, Palle Skov Jensen, still owned the chain as of late 2018.
