Jeremy Finlayson (born 9 February 1996) is a professional Australian rules football player. He currently plays for the Port Adelaide Football Club in the Australian Football League (AFL). Before joining Port Adelaide, he played for the GWS Giants.
Early Life and Family
Jeremy Finlayson was born in Culcairn, New South Wales. He comes from an Indigenous Australian family, specifically the Yorta Yorta people.
Growing up, Jeremy enjoyed many sports. He played cricket, lawn bowls, and tennis. However, his main focus was always Australian rules football.
He went to Billabong High School in Culcairn. He played junior football for the Culcairn Lions. At just 16 years old, he made his senior debut for the club in 2012.
In late 2012, Jeremy moved to Sydney. He joined the GWS Giants' special academy program. This move helped him improve his skills and get ready for the AFL draft.
Jeremy was chosen by the GWS Giants in the 2014 AFL draft. He was the 85th player picked that year. He also finished his high school studies at Patrician Brothers' College, Blacktown. In 2023, Jeremy married Kellie Gardner. They have a daughter together.
Playing in the AFL
Jeremy Finlayson played his first AFL game in 2017. He made his debut for the Greater Western Sydney team. This game was against Geelong at Spotless Stadium. It happened in Round 15 of the 2017 season.
After the 2021 AFL season, Jeremy asked to be traded to a new team. He wanted to move for family reasons. He then joined the Port Adelaide team.
