Jerrard Tickell was born in Dublin, Ireland. He went to school in Tipperary, Ireland, and later at Highgate School in London, England, from 1919 to 1922.
When World War II began, Jerrard Tickell joined the army in 1940. He became an officer in 1941. He worked at the War Office, which was a government department in charge of the army.
From 1943 to 1945, his work took him all over the world. He traveled to places like Africa, the Middle East, and North America. He also visited the Caribbean and Europe. In 1945, he joined the General Staff, a group of important army officers.
Jerrard Tickell was married to Renée Haynes. She was also a writer and studied things like ghosts and psychic abilities. They had three sons named Crispin, Patrick, and Tom.
His Books
Jerrard Tickell wrote 21 novels. One of his most popular books was Appointment with Venus, published in 1951. This book was so good that it was made into a movie starring the famous actor David Niven. A Danish film was also made from the book in 1962.
He also wrote non-fiction books, which are based on real events. One book told the story of a brave secret agent named Odette Hallowes. Another book was about a special group of pilots called the "moon squadron" (No. 138 Squadron RAF). He also wrote about "Ascalon," which was Winston Churchill's personal airplane during the war.
