Jerusalén is a small town, also called a municipality, in the country of El Salvador. It is located in the La Paz department. About 3,000 people live there.

History of Jerusalén

The town of Jerusalén was founded by the Cordova family. They were Sephardi Jews. Sephardi Jews are a group of Jewish people whose families originally lived in the Iberian Peninsula, which includes Spain and Portugal.

A long time ago, in 1492, the Jewish people were asked to leave Spain. This event is known as the Edict of Expulsion. Many Jewish families, like the Cordovas, had to find new homes in other parts of the world. This is how the Cordova family eventually came to El Salvador and founded Jerusalén.

Jerusalén is located in the La Paz department of El Salvador. It sits at an elevation of about 582 meters (1,909 feet) above sea level. This means it's quite a bit higher than the coast.
