Jim Rempe, born on November 4, 1947, in Scranton, Pennsylvania, is a famous American professional pool player. He is often called "King James." In 2002, he was honored by being added to the Billiard Congress of America's Hall of Fame. This means he is one of the best pool players ever!

Jim Rempe's Pool Journey
Starting Young and Turning Pro
Jim Rempe started playing pool when he was just 6 years old. He became a professional player at age 22. He won more than 100 tournaments in different types of pool games. These included popular games like Nine-ball, Eight-ball, and Straight Pool.
Becoming "King James"
Throughout the 1970s, Jim won many tournaments. He competed in the United States, Asia, and Europe. Because of his many victories, he earned the nickname "King James."
In 1979, Jim traveled to Australia. There, he played against Eddie Charlton, a famous snooker player. Jim won a series of games in Nine-ball, Rotation, and Straight Pool. The next year, in 1980, Jim went to New Zealand. He played against Rex Williams, another top snooker player. Jim won matches in Snooker, English billiards, Nine-ball, and Rotation.
Representing the USA
Jim Rempe proudly represented the United States three times. He played in the Mosconi Cup, a big team competition. His last appearance in this event was in 1999.
In December 2005, Jim took part in a special event. It was called the International Pool Tour King of the Hill Shootout. This tournament was by invitation only. It featured thirteen players from the BCA Hall of Fame. Thirty other skilled players also competed. The event took place in Orlando, Florida, and was shown on TV.
Jim Rempe's Snooker Adventure
From 1980 to 1991, Jim Rempe also played in professional snooker events. Snooker is a game similar to pool, played on a larger table. His first snooker event was a team competition in 1980. His team did not make it past the first round.
In 1985, Jim officially became a professional snooker player. His best result came in 1987. He reached the round of 64 in the 1987 World Snooker Championship. There, he played against Stephen Hendry, who later became a seven-time world champion. Jim lost that match by a score of 10 frames to 4.
Jim Rempe reached his highest snooker ranking in 1987, at 101st place. This was the highest ranking for any American-born player at that time. He is also the only American-born player to score a "century break" in a professional snooker match. A century break means scoring 100 points or more in one turn.
