James Rempe (born November 4, 1947, in Scranton, Pennsylvania, USA) is a professional pocket billiards player from America. Pocket billiards is also known as pool. He was honored by being added to the Billiard Congress of America's Hall of Fame in 2002. This means he is recognized as one of the best pool players ever.

Jim Rempe's Pool Career

Jim Rempe started playing pool when he was just 6 years old. He became a professional player at age 22. During his career, he won over 100 tournaments in different types of pool games. He won championships in popular games like Nine-ball, Eight-ball, and Straight Pool.

In the 1970s, Jim Rempe won many tournaments. He competed all over the United States, Asia, and Europe. Because he won so many times, people started calling him "King James."

In 1979, Rempe traveled to Australia. There, he played against World Snooker Championship finalist Eddie Charlton. Jim Rempe won a series of matches in Nine-ball, Rotation, and Straight Pool. The next year, in 1980, he went to New Zealand. He played against another World Snooker Championship finalist, Rex Williams. Rempe won matches in Snooker, English billiards, Nine-ball, and Rotation.

Jim Rempe also represented the USA three times in the Mosconi Cup. This is a special team competition where American players play against European players. His last appearance in the Mosconi Cup was in 1999.

In December 2005, Rempe took part in the International Pool Tour (IPT) King of the Hill Shootout. This was a special event in Orlando, Florida, where only invited players could compete. It included thirteen players from the BCA Hall of Fame and thirty other skilled players. This important tournament was even shown on the Versus network on TV.

Jim Rempe's Snooker Journey

From 1980 to 1991, Jim Rempe also played in professional snooker events. Snooker is a game similar to pool but played on a larger table with different rules. His first snooker event was a team competition called the 1980 World Challenge Cup. His team did not make it past the first round.

In 1985, Rempe officially became a professional snooker player. His best result came in 1987 when he reached the round of 64 in the 1987 World Snooker Championship. In that match, he lost to Stephen Hendry, who later became a world champion seven times. The score was 10 frames to 4.

Jim Rempe reached his highest snooker ranking in 1987, at 101st place. This was the highest ranking ever achieved by any American-born snooker player. He is also the only American-born player to make a century break in a professional snooker match. A century break means scoring 100 points or more in one turn without missing.
