Jimbalakudunj was started in the early 1990s. Members of the Nargoodah family moved there. They came from Noonkanbah and Fitzroy Crossing. They settled on a place called Paradise Downs Station. A group was set up in 1991 to help manage the community.
Understanding Native Title
The Jimbalakudunj community is located in an area with a special agreement. This agreement is called an Indigenous land use agreement. It's part of the SDWK Nyikina Mangala area. This agreement helps manage how the land is used. It also recognizes the rights of the traditional owners.
How Jimbalakudunj is Managed
The community is managed by a group called the Jimbalakudunj Aboriginal Corporation. This group was officially formed on May 27, 1991. It operates under a law called the Aboriginal Councils and Associations Act 1976. This law helps Aboriginal communities manage their own affairs.
Community Planning
Jimbalakudunj has a special plan for its development. It's called Jimbalakudunj Layout Plan No.1. This plan follows rules from the State Planning Policy 3.2 Aboriginal Settlements. This policy helps make sure that Aboriginal communities are planned well.
