Jimblah's Music Journey
Jimblah started rapping and writing songs when he was just 12 years old. When he was 22, he won the Hilltop Hoods Initiative. This award helped him start making his first album.
First Albums
His first album, Face the Fire, came out in 2011. It was released by himself at first. Then, in 2012, he signed with Elefant Traks and they re-released it. His second album, Phoenix, was released in 2013.
Guest Appearances and Covers
Jimblah has sung on many other artists' songs. He has also performed cover songs on Triple J's "Like a Version" show. He covered "Resolution" by Matt Corby and "What's Goin' On?" by Marvin Gaye. Triple J even featured him as their Artist of the Week!
Homeward Bound Music
Jimblah also makes music with his partner, Goji (Georgia Humphreys). Their music project is called Homeward Bound. They released their first album, Whatever You Do, Don't Panic, in 2019. This album also came out on the Elefant Traks label.
Jimblah's Activism
Jimblah often uses his music to share important messages. He talks about social and political issues in his songs.
Speaking Up for Rights
One example is his song "Black Life Matters." This song features Ellie May and talks about Jimblah's great-grandmother, Hilda Muir. Hilda Muir worked hard to get an apology for the Stolen Generations. This was a time when many First Nations children were taken from their families. She also wanted people to get help for what happened. Jimblah wants to continue her important work.
First Nations Music
In 2019, Jimblah started a petition. He asked the national radio station Triple J to create a show just for First Nations music. Because of his efforts, a group called First Sounds: First Nations Collective was formed. This group helps promote traditional and modern First Nations music. Famous artists like Yothu Yindi and Thelma Plum are part of this group. Jimblah also speaks out against racism in the Australian music industry. He helps new First Nations hip hop artists learn and grow.
