Jimmy Faulkner (born January 31, 1950 – died March 4, 2008) was an amazing Irish guitarist. He was known as one of Ireland's best guitar players. For over 40 years, he played with many top musicians in different styles like rock, blues, folk, and even jazz.

Jimmy Faulkner's Musical Life

Jimmy was born in Dolphin's Barn, a part of Dublin, Ireland. He grew up in a family that loved music. He started playing guitar in the 1960s. One of his first bands was called Jangle Dangle, which he formed with another Irish guitarist, Dan Coffey.

Later, Jimmy played in a band called Freak Show. In the 1970s and 1980s, he often played at a place called the Meeting Place in Dublin. During these years, he played with many famous Irish musicians. These included Christy Moore, Dónal Lunny, Mary Coughlan, Paul Brady, and Luka Bloom. Towards the end of the 1980s, he joined bands like the Fleadh Cowboys and Hotfoot. He also often played with Kieran Halpin.

His Guitar Style

Jimmy was very talented because he could play many different kinds of music. He was great at blues/rock, folk, traditional Irish music, and country music. He could even play in the jazz style of Django Reinhardt, a famous jazz guitarist.

His main guitar was a red 1967 Fender Stratocaster. He also played a Gibson ES335 guitar, which he got when he was in California.

Later Years

Before he passed away in 2008, Jimmy was still very active. He played music every week in places like Jj's in Aungier Street and the DCC venue in Camden Row, both in Dublin.
