Early Life and Beginnings
Jintara was born in a part of Thailand called Isan. Her birth name was Tongbai Janlueang. Later, her parents got married and her name changed to Tongbai Poonlarp. Jintara is the stage name she uses for her music. There was some confusion about her birth year, but her ID card shows March 6, 1969, as her birthday. This is the date she celebrates.
Music Career Highlights
Jintara started singing when she was a teenager. She first recorded many songs for a company called GMM Grammy. After that, she made more recordings for the Master Tape company. She released many albums with them, often called Luk tung sa on and Mor lam sa on. "Sa on" means "enjoyable" in the Isan language. These albums came out as CDs, VCDs (video CDs), and audio tapes.
Many collections of her greatest hits have also been released. Some of these even include music videos from her early songs. Her first five albums were all luk thung style. But after that, most of her albums mixed luk thung, mor lam, and sometimes Thai pop. Her most famous pop songs are "Mah Tummai" and "Faen Ja," which she sang with Thongchai McIntyre. Jintara often goes on tour with her live show from September to May each year. She has even performed in Europe and North America!
One of her well-known songs is "Sǎo Isǎan plát tìn." This means "Isan girl separated from her home." It talks about common themes in Thai country music, like being far from home, feeling sad, and having a partner who isn't loyal. Another song, "Arlai World Trade," was about the September 11, 2001, events.
In 2003, the Thai Ministry of Culture suggested banning one of her songs, "Tears of a Lieutenant's Wife," from being played on state radio.
By 2006, she had released 38 original albums. In 2007, she joined the R-Siam record label. Then, in 2018, she moved to Cat 9 Studio. She became super popular again with her song Tao Ngoi. This song hit number one on Thai music charts in 2018 and 2019. It even got over 123 million views on YouTube by September 2019!
