João Luís Baião dos Santos (born October 8, 1963) is a famous Portuguese television presenter and actor. He is also known as an entertainer. João Baião has been active in television and theater since 1984.

Early Life and First Steps

João Baião was born in Buraca, Amadora, a town near Lisbon, Portugal. When he was a child, he enjoyed playing soccer and doing gymnastics. He was also part of a group of scouts.

From a young age, João loved performing in plays. He even joined an amateur theater group with his brother. He later left school to focus on his passion. He wrote a special kind of show called a "café-concert" and won a competition with it.

Starting His Acting Career

After winning the competition, João was invited to try out for a play. This play was called Mother Courage at the National Theatre D. Maria II in Lisbon. He got a big role in it!

Later, two important people, Irene Cruz and João Lourenço, asked him to join a new theater group. This group was called the Open Theater (Teatro Aberto) and was also in Lisbon. At the same time, João started getting small parts in television shows.

He continued to write and created another café-concert. A director named Filipe La Féria liked his work very much. Filipe invited João to work with him at the Open Theater, where João stayed for four years. After that, he moved to the Experimental Theater of Cascais.

Becoming a TV Star

João Baião became very famous across Portugal when he started hosting a show called "Big Show SIC." This was on the private television channel Sociedade Independente de Comunicação (SIC), starting in 1992.

Hosting Popular Shows

"Big Show SIC" was a fun variety show. It featured many Portuguese artists and was presented by João with lots of energy. This fast and exciting style was new for Portuguese television at the time. For many years, João Baião was one of the most recognized faces on SIC.

In late 2000, he moved to Channel 1 of the Rádio e Televisão de Portugal (RTP). At RTP, he was a judge on a show called "Dance." He also produced and presented programs like "Saturday Night" and "João Baião." However, these shows did not get as many viewers as his previous ones on SIC.

Today, João Baião is back on SIC. He hosts a popular morning show called “Casa Feliz” (“Happy House”) with Diana Chaves.

Writing Music Lyrics

Besides acting and presenting, João Baião also wrote song lyrics. He wrote for many music groups and singers. Some of these included Excesso, Anjos, D'Arrasar, Xanadu, Milénio, and Delirium. He also wrote lyrics for the singer Cláudia.
