João Luís Baião dos Santos (born October 8, 1963) is a famous Portuguese TV presenter, entertainer, and actor. He is well-known for his energetic style and for hosting many popular shows.

João Baião's Early Life and Start in Acting

João Baião was born in Buraca, Amadora, a town near Lisbon, Portugal. When he was a child, he enjoyed playing soccer and doing gymnastics. He was also part of the scouts.

From a young age, João loved performing. He started acting in plays with an amateur theater group, even with his brother. Later, he wrote a special kind of show called a café-concert. He won a competition with it! This led to an invitation to audition for a big play called Mother Courage at the National Theatre D. Maria II in Lisbon. He got an important role.

After that, he was asked to join a new theater group called the Open Theater (Teatro Aberto). At the same time, he began to get small roles in television shows. João kept writing and created another café-concert. A famous director named Filipe La Féria liked his work and invited him to work at the Open Theater for four years. Then, João moved on to work at the Experimental Theater of Cascais.

João Baião's Journey in Television

João Baião became very famous in Portugal when he started hosting a show called "Big Show SIC." This was on the private TV channel Sociedade Independente de Comunicação (SIC) starting in 1992. The show was full of different kinds of entertainment. It often featured many Portuguese artists. João Baião presented it with a lot of energy, which was new and exciting for Portuguese television at the time.

For many years, João Baião was one of the most recognized faces on SIC. However, in late 2000, he left SIC and joined Channel 1 of the Rádio e Televisão de Portugal (RTP), which is a state-run TV network. At RTP, he was a judge on a show called "Dance." He also produced and presented programs like "Saturday Night" and "João Baião." But he didn't quite get the same huge audience he had when he was on SIC.

Today, João Baião is back on SIC. He hosts a popular morning show called “Casa Feliz” (“Happy House”) with Diana Chaves.
