JoAnne Yates was born in 1951. She went to Texas Christian University and earned her first degree in 1974. Later, she continued her studies at the University of North Carolina. She received her master's degree and then her Ph.D. in 1980.
Her Career at MIT
In the 1980s, JoAnne Yates began working at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) in Cambridge, Massachusetts. This is a very well-known university! There, she started a special group called the Managerial Communication Unit. This group helped people learn how to communicate better in business.
Since 1999, she was a special professor of management at the MIT Sloan School of Management. From 2007 to 2012, she was also the Deputy Dean of the Sloan School of Management. This means she helped lead the school. She retired from her work in 2020.
