Playing Career Highlights
Jo Kanazawa was born in Iruma, Japan, on July 9, 1976. After finishing university, he joined a top Japanese football club called Júbilo Iwata in 1999.
Time at Júbilo Iwata (First Period)
Even though he wasn't always a starting player, Jo Kanazawa played many games. He often played as a left-sided midfielder. His team, Júbilo Iwata, won the J1 League championship twice, in 1999 and again in 2002. They also did very well in Asian football. The club won the 1998–99 Asian Club Championship and finished second in the next two Asian Club Championships (1999–2000 and 2000–01).
Moving to FC Tokyo
In 2003, Jo Kanazawa moved to FC Tokyo. Here, he became a regular player right away. He played as a left-sided defender. His new team, FC Tokyo, won the 2004 J.League Cup. In 2006, he faced an injury that kept him from playing much. However, he worked hard and became a regular player again in 2007.
From 2008, he started to share his regular spot with a new player, Yuto Nagatomo. Jo Kanazawa also played as a defensive midfielder sometimes, not just as a left-sided defender.
Return to Júbilo Iwata and Retirement
In August 2009, Jo Kanazawa returned to Júbilo Iwata, the club where he started his professional career. He became a regular left-sided defender again for the rest of the 2009 season. Although he didn't play as many games from 2010 onwards, the club won the 2010 J.League Cup.
As time went on, his chances to play became fewer. In 2014, he moved to Thespakusatsu Gunma, a club in the J2 League. Jo Kanazawa decided to retire from football at the end of the 2014 season, when he was 38 years old.
