Joan Henley (born September 2, 1904 – died February 10, 1986) was an Irish actress and radio presenter. She had a long career, acting for over 50 years. She worked on stage, in films, and on television.
Joan started her acting career on the London stage around 1927. She often played young, innocent characters. She continued to act in plays throughout the 1930s. Her first film role was in Purse Strings in 1933. Even though she worked for many years, her film and TV roles were often small. This was because she focused more on her stage work and her personal life. She is perhaps best remembered for her role as Miss Teresa Alan in the movie A Room with a View. This film won an Oscar and was released less than a year before she passed away.
Joan Henley married Bruce Belfrage in 1930. They had a son named Julian Belfrage, who later became an agent for actors. After her marriage to Bruce Belfrage ended, she married the author Laurence Meynell in 1956. They remained married until her death.
