Joan Margarit i Consarnau (born May 11, 1938 – died February 16, 2021) was a talented Spanish poet and architect. He also worked as a professor for many years. Most of his poems were written in the Catalan language, which is spoken in parts of Spain. He was recognized with the important Miguel de Cervantes Prize in 2019 for his amazing work.

Joan Margarit was born in Sanaüja, Spain. He grew up to be a very creative person. He loved both writing poetry and designing buildings. This made him special because he had two very different but interesting careers.
His Work as a Professor
Besides being a poet and architect, Joan Margarit was also a professor. He taught at the Technical School of Architecture in Barcelona. This school is part of the Polytechnic University of Catalonia. Joan Margarit received several big awards for his poetry. In October 2008, he won the Premio Nacional de Poesía. This award was for his poetry book called Casa de Misericordia.
