Joaquín Cortés's Amazing Journey
Joaquín Cortés was born in Córdoba, Spain. His family belongs to the Gitano community, who are known for their rich culture and music. From a very young age, Joaquín loved to dance. In 1981, his family moved to Madrid, Spain. There, he started taking serious dance lessons.
In 1984, Joaquín was accepted into Spain's famous national ballet company. He traveled all over the world with them. He performed in important places like the Metropolitan Opera House (Lincoln Center) in New York. He also danced at the Kremlin Palace in Moscow. During his time with the Spanish National Ballet, he became a main solo dancer. People knew him for his incredible energy and athletic moves.

Joaquín Cortés wanted to have more creative freedom. So, in 1992, he started his own dance group called the Joaquín Cortés Flamenco Ballet company. He began his first international tour called 'Cibayí'. This allowed him to mix flamenco, ballet, and modern dance in his own unique way.
In 1995, Joaquín Cortés was in two international movies. These were 'La flor de mi secreto' (The Flower of My Secret) and Carlos Saura's 'Flamenco'. He also started his most successful show, 'Pasión Gitana' (Gypsy Passion). With 'Pasión Gitana', Joaquín Cortés became known not just as a great dancer. He was also recognized as an amazing choreographer (someone who creates dances) and artistic director. In 1999, a documentary film was made about him. He then had a successful tour of his show 'Soul' across North and South America.
As the new millennium began, Joaquín Cortés started to focus more on creating dances and directing shows. He still dances live on stage, in movies, and on TV. In 2000, he acted in the movie 'Gitano' (Gypsy). In 2004, he was in another film called 'Vaniglia e cioccolato' (Vanilla and Chocolate). In 2001, he also appeared as a special guest at a concert for Jennifer Lopez in Puerto Rico.
In 2004, Cortés went on an international tour called 'De Amor y Odio'. This tour took him to places like England, Portugal, Thailand, and New York. In 2007, Joaquín Cortés started his newest show, 'Mi Soledad'. He also performed as a guest dancer on the TV show "Dancing with the Stars" on May 15, 2007.
Joaquín Cortés also inspired the character Vamp from the Metal Gear video game series.
