Kids Encyclopedia Facts

Joaquín Jara (Zaragoza, around 1676 – Toledo, 1747 or 1756) was a Spanish composer. He was known for his music and for being an organist.

In 1715, Joaquín Jara was the organist at Valencia Cathedral. At that time, he started a long debate with another composer, Francisco Valls. This debate lasted five years and was about the new and unusual sounds Valls used in his music, especially in a piece called Miserere from his Missa Scala Arentina. Jara thought these sounds were too different from traditional music.
