Jobe, Missouri facts for kids

Jobe is a small, unincorporated community located in the southeastern part of Oregon County, within the U.S. state of Missouri. It's not a city with its own government, but rather a group of homes and businesses without official borders.

This quiet community is found about seven miles east of a place called Couch. It's also about five and a half miles north of the border between Missouri and Arkansas. A stream named Frederick Creek flows past the northern side of Jobe. The beautiful Eleven Point River is just 3.5 miles to the east, offering scenic views and outdoor activities.

The community of Jobe has a simple but interesting past. It was also known by a slightly different name, "Job," at one point.

When Did Jobe Get a Post Office?

A post office was first opened in Jobe way back in 1848. This was a very important service for people living in rural areas, allowing them to send and receive letters and packages. However, this first post office closed down in 1888.

Later, in 1892, the post office reopened, but this time it was called "Job." It served the community for several years before closing permanently in 1906.

Who Was Jobe Named After?

The community gets its name from an early settler in the area, a man named Jacob Job. It was common for new settlements to be named after the first families or important people who lived there.
